Ducted Gas Heating
Ducted Gas Heating Systems
Ducted gas heating is the most energy-efficient and cost-effective whole-home heating option for Australian households, keeping every room in your home warm during cold winter months.
Gas central heating works by drawing natural gas into a central heater unit, which is then heated up and pushed through ducts into rooms, ensuring an instantly warm and comfortable environment across all rooms in your home.
How does ducted gas heating work?
Once warm air is created inside the heater, a central fan pushes it through ducts connected to grills set into your floors or ceiling. This warm air enters the room through vents, creating even heat distribution throughout your home.
As the hot air warms the room, cooler air falls back down toward floor level and gets drawn back through a return air grille into the heater to be warmed again. This continuously recycles the air until the set temperature is reached, saving energy.
The thermostat measures the temperature of the room air, then tells your heating unit to warm or lower the temperature as needed until the preferred room temperature is reached again to preserve energy.
Zoning options enable rooms to be heated independently, so you save more energy and money by heating only the rooms you are using.
Can I combine ducted gas heating with air conditioning?
Yes! If you already have ducted gas heating installed or are planning to install it, you can add add-on cooling to keep your home cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Add-on cooling uses the same ductwork as ducted gas heating. Refrigrated cooling units cool and dehumidify the warm air into fresh, clean air using the same duct network for all seasons.
What are the advantages of gas ducted heating?
Cost-saving
Heating systems running on natural gas keep the overall running costs low compared to electricity.
Saving energy
With a zoned system, you only heat the rooms that need heat. You stay comfortable and save energy at the same time.
Consistent heat
Gas heaters maintain warm temperatures reliably no matter how cold it is outside, without losing efficiency.
Unrivalled performance
Superior heating capacity delivers dry, soothing warmth into your rooms quickly and efficiently.
All-season comfort
Add-on cooling can be attached to your ducted gas system to provide both whole-home cooling and heating through the same ductwork.
Environmentally friendly service
Natural gas produces far lower greenhouse gas emissions than electricity-powered heating, making it the greener choice for heating your home.
What types of systems are there?
With ducted heating systems, you have two main options: standalone heating, which heats the home during winter, or dual heating and cooling, which uses refrigerated air conditioning along with gas heating for year-round climate control. Gas heaters are rated from 3-star to 6-star efficiency; higher-star models cost more upfront but save significantly on your energy bills long-term.
Here are the main 2 types of systems:
Ducted gas heating only
A dedicated gas heating system operates solely as a central heating system, drawing natural gas into a central heater unit to warm cold air. The heated air is then circulated through ducts into each room. If you only require heating during winter months, a dedicated gas system delivers comfortable warmth at lower running costs.
Ducted gas heating with refrigerated air conditioning
A dual system combines gas ducted heating with add-on refrigerated cooling. This allows complete year-round control, using gas heating in winter and refrigerated air cooling in summer through the exact same ceiling or floor ducts.
